CONVERSION
Data rates calculators
Convert a supplied data transfer rate from decimal megabits per second to gigabits per second. A rate describes how quickly information is transferred, not the size of a file. Estimate ideal transfer time separately from decimal gigabytes and a supplied effective rate.

One gigabit per second equals 1,000 megabits per second. These are bits, not bytes or binary multiples; the unit converter does not infer download duration, network overhead or actual connection performance. The transfer-time tool uses eight bits per byte and excludes protocol overhead, latency and competing traffic.

Estimate ideal transfer duration from decimal gigabytes and megabits per second. Example: Data size (decimal GB): 2 GB decimal, Effective transfer rate (decimal Mbit/s): 100 Mbit/s decimal gives 160 seconds. 1 GB = 10^9 bytes; 1 byte = 8 bits; 1 Mbit/s = 10^6 bit/s. Decimal units only, not GiB/MiB. Constant effective user-supplied rate; protocol overhead, latency and competing traffic excluded, so
- Megabits Per Second to Gigabits Per Second Converter
Convert megabits per second to gigabits per second. For example, 2.5 Mbit/s equals 0.0025 Gbit/s. Enter a nonnegative value up to 1,000,000,000 to update the result.
