CALCULATOR
Rectangular Layout Diagonal Calculator
Calculates the expected diagonal of a rectangular layout from its length and width. Compare this result with measured diagonals to assess whether the layout is square.
How the calculation works
Expected diagonal D = sqrt(length^2 + width^2), with each input converted from its independently selected length unit to the canonical length unit before evaluation.
Worked example
With length 30 ft, width 40 ft, expected diagonal measurement is 50 ft.
Assumptions and limits
Length and width are nonnegative side lengths of a flat two-dimensional rectangle. The calculator returns the expected diagonal only. It does not accept a measured diagonal, compare the two diagonals, or determine whether the layout is square. Numeric bounds are the registered V5 runtime limits, not limits stated by the source.
